3 ways to make your skincare work harder for you!

by | Dec 13, 2020 | SKINCARE

Here are a few little daily adjustments you can make to help your skincare work harder. In return, it saves you money, who doesn’t love the sound of that!

Exfoliation

From the age of 25, our skin cell turnover cycle slows down. Suppose you’re never helping your skin with occasional exfoliation and leaving a dead layer of skin cells. In this case, it’s creating a physical barrier between the skincare ingredients and the new healthy skin.

Exfoliating a few times a week will help your skincare reach the deeper layer of the skin. I recommend chemical exfoliation over a physical scrub, as it often ends up being more gentle.

Two chemical exfoliators I like from iherb (one of my favorite places to shop online) are Cosrx, AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid and Andalou Naturals Glycolic & Pumpkin Honey Brightening Mask

Apply on damp skin

No applying your serums to damp skin won’t water them down or make them less effective, instead, products applied to damp skin show it increases permeability, meaning how deep into the layers of the skin it can be delivered to.

It’s good news because we don’t want our products to be absorbed by the top dead, dry layers. By having the outer layers damp, soften them up, allowing products to get through to the deeper layers of skin.

So what does ‘damp skin mean? Well it’s not dripping wet (that will probably water down your product) it’s skin after a decent bath or shower, patted dry, and then applying your products asap. If you’re on the go or outside of the bathroom, use a facial mist allowing all the droplets to sink in.

Layer Skincare Properly

Doing this wrong could be wasting a ton of product, like putting on an oil and then your serum?! Sorry but, each time you’ you this your wasting your expensive serum. Smaller molecules should go first then larger to prevent the latter formula from essentially blocking the former formula.

Ok, we are not scientist’s, I don’t know all about this molecules stuff you say? To simplify this go from the thinnest texture to the heaviest.  So after cleansing, it’s toner, essence, serum, eye cream, oil and then moisturiser. You don’t necessarily have to do each of these steps, but you get the idea. From the ones, you do use, follow this type of order.
