As I’m sure most of you know, my ‘day job’ is a makeup artist. I have worked in most major cities, including NYC, London, Paris, Tokyo, Bangkok, Sydney, and (of course!) Hong Kong.. Historically I have worked mostly on models and celebrities for campaigns and magazine shoots… however 2020 has thrown all of us a curveball to say the least! This year (2020) the kind of productions that made the bulk of my work have been less, so I have more private clients, weddings and makeup lessons.
Given I am lucky enough to be always working with a wide style of people, age and nationality, doing make up for all sorts of occasions and creative projects, I thought it would be nice to share just a few of the top products I always reach for whilst working.
M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
This foundation is my ride or die, I have used it for so many years; honestly, I’m too scared to change. My clients love how I do their skin and it photographs well on models. It’s good coverage, and I layer and buff it into the skin – it always melts in nicely, not over extenuating the pores, and just not make-upy looking (you know what I mean!).
I carry three different shades and mix them to my client’s skin tone. For personal use however it’s maybe easier to have just one or two shades – M.A.C. has you covered. They have a massive range of colours and always have.
Benefit Brow Zings
I have other brow pencils in my kit but I always just reach for this palette – I LOVE working with it. First I lay down the coloured wax and then go over with the powder for stronger colour; it really helps define the shape and is super longer-lasting! I have another larger Benefit palette for lighter shades. No doubt about it, Benefit just do brows best!
M.A.C Prep+Prime Highlighter – Radiant Rose
My little secret weapon for lifting dark under-eyes – honestly this product is fab. I swipe it on before concealer and it just adds brightness to the under-eyes. Additionally, the pink tone responsible for lifting dark circle blue shade means you need less concealer after!
NARS Liquid Blush – Luster
This is a new discovery for me and I can’t stop using it on everyone I work with now! It’s just so beautiful, the colour is the perfect pretty peach shade and longevity of this formula surprised me. It blends and layers beautifully with fingers or a brush; I still need to go try more shades!
That’s it thanks for reading. I hope you liked these little product recommendations!
