If you have dry skin this winter, check this list to see you’re doing all you can to have healthy glowing skin even in winter!
1. Exfoliate and Hydrate Dry Skin
Dry, flaky skin can be apart of wintertime; lifting off the flaky skin GENTLY is an excellent way to boost your hydration. Exfoliating with an acid toner will help your hydrating products penetrate better and increase hydration.
If you’re an exfoliation newbie please start slowly once or twice a week and see how you go.. Over-exfoliating will weaken your skin barrier and contribute to trans epidermal water loss, and that’s not what we want in winter!
2. Keep Lip Balm Handy
Don’t be stuck without it, dry lips ramp up in dry weather…of course, and licking your lips is not a substitute if I remember hearing correctly that our saliva has a bit of acidity to it, the first step of breaking down food, not for the skin on your lips!
Use a balm that’s good for your lips. There are so many with ingredients that aren’t that great, you can read about them here: Are you addicted to lip balm? Ingredients to avoid.
3. Update your Base Makeup Products
The chances are that foundation you liked wearing in summer for long-lasting oil control is not the best option in the dead of winter. Think about swapping it to a ‘glowing’ hydrating foundation to help your skin look healthy in the chilly months.
You’ll also find maybe you don’t need to set your face with powder as often, or could swap to a setting spray for more hydration!
4. Lock Moisture in
Long hot showers are incredible in winter and sometimes just what you need after being out and about, but you’ve probably heard it before, hot water is also great at drying out your skin! … but you still won’t get me to shower in lukewarm water sorry, no!
Next best thing? Is to use that water from the shower to your advantage! Apply your body lotion while your skin is still wet/damp, this will help lock in all that moisture!
5. Hydrate Skin from within
Something a little more out of my range (so please consult your doctor if needed) is hydrating from within, yes drink more water, but flaxseeds and chia seeds have lots of omega-3, fatty acids and have been shown to be great for both dry hair and skin hydration.
Bonus Round!
Affordable brands too look at with great products for winter skin!
