7 Summertime skincare re-evaluation tips!

by | Mar 28, 2021 | SKINCARE

Summertime is on the way, baby! Depending on where you live in the world and how extreme the summer is, you will need to re-access your skincare and makeup routines. Here in Hong Kong, it gets past the extreme-scale, and the humidity is so thick you can feel it out there.

Everything changes in Summer; your makeup doesn’t stay on as well, you sweat while walking anywhere, your hair turns into a big fluffy teddy. Safe to say, different routines are needed for this time of the year. So let’s walk through some of the areas you can reevaluate in the next few months.

7 Summertime skincare re-evaluation tips

SPF all day everywhere, of course!

This is not something new because we wear SPF here at theBEAUTYtalk 365 days, don’t we? but just to reiterate the importance of sun protection. More so in summer, we need to be thinking all areas of sun protection, wear a hat, seek shade, don’t head out, right in the peak at midday if you can help it and were long sleeve clothing if possible.

Lighten up on the morning skincare routine.

You may find you don’t need as heavy creams in the summer months as you do over winter when your skin dries out more. This is especially true for the morning routine, a light layer is all that’s needed, plus help’s makeup to not slide around on your face so much.

Legs are on show again!

Our limbs are on show now, so it’s time to get them ready! Moisturised legs always look better, but it can feel horrible when it’s hot out. Try to find an excellent lightweight, fast-absorbing body lotion, nothing worse than when your out and cross your legs and they’re sliding with sweaty lotioned legs! (This is just how humid it gets Hong Kong)

Notes on tanning

Please don’t get your tan from the sun; it’s not a ‘healthy glow’. It’s literally only your skin cells showing they are being damaged. There are just endless options for tanning products, gels, mousse, waters, sprays and creams. For me, I use a gradual tanner body lotion if I want a little extra colour. Gone are the old days with little options we have so much now… so explore a little, see what works for you. I have used this one from iherb for a few summers!

SPF is your moisturiser

For some, skipping moisturiser can work; dedicated face sunscreens often already have enough moisturising ingredients. Fewer layers will feel better in the heat and keep any makeup from sliding off.

Makeup – Less is more

Again light layers work best; if there is less product on the face, there is less to move around and get messy; catch my drift? Opt for sheer makeup bases and concealer on just the area’s you need the coverage.

Hair for humidity

To be honest, I still have not figured this one out yet! The humidity does crazy things to my hair. Though do remember, hair needs sun protection too, that’s why it’s good to stick with a hat. Pool water can be so drying to your hair, so be careful of this one.! As a tip, wet it first under plain water; that way, it will soak up less of the chlorinated pool water.

If you do get a sunburn!

Keep the skin cool, loose clothing have cold showers, stay hydrated and take an aspirin if you need.
