Is Matte Skin Rising Again? Cloud Skin Trend?

by | Mar 14, 2021 | MAKEUP

Being the beauty obsessive I am, I’ve always got my eye on what’s launching. What I’m seeing is an upwards trend of matte skin products. It’s pretty interesting to see what the brands are doing with this new direction, as I didn’t think the #glowingskin was going anywhere! But as we all know, ‘trends’ come in waves.

I sore it had been talked about in a beauty Facebook group; it was an article about ‘Cloud Skin’, a skin trend word being used more for product names. Cloud skin is described as soft-focused skin, with a glow coming from within and through the matte texture.

Don’t think of lifeless powdery matte skin. This is still about glow but in a completely different texture. It’s a new way to create a glow, less shiny and wet look sitting on top of the skin. More dreamy from within, like a hazy glow coming through.

New Matte Makeup launches I have been seeing!

Fenty powder foundation
Revlon colorstay light cover foundation
Loreal infallible fresh wear powder foundation
Chantecaille Future Skin Cushion Skincare Foundation
Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Foundation
Kosas Cloud Set Setting Powder
Pixi H2O Skinveil

How to make matte skin work for you!

For  Matte skin with a modern twist, I recommend first layering something light-reflecting underneath a matte product, like a luminous primer. I love using the VDL Lumilayer Primer.  This is a long time popular one from Korea or something like Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter; it’s beautiful too. Then use a light layer of a matte foundation, still allowing the illuminating product to shine through, adding concealer around the needed areas, and lastly, set with a powder.

At the same time as writing this article, I have seen on my Instagram that Starbucks have a new drink called Creamy Salted Caramel Clouds! Now even outside the beauty world, “Cloud” seems to be a buzz word.

Will you be trying out a matte product any time soon? I see the positive in matte products, with protective mask-wearing and keeping makeup on longer under them.
