For quite some time now, the natural makeup look has been sought after. Often we want to have a little makeup on, but don’t want compliments like ‘your MAKEUP looks so beautiful’, we want ‘your SKIN looks amazing’, am I right?
If you’re like me, we work so hard maintaining our skin with morning and night skincare routines, but why should it stop there? It seems like others agree with me – shoppers are becoming more and more educated and starting to want more from makeup then just well…makeup.
And why not?! Brands are starting to catch on – I’m seeing more and more new products that are designed to bridge the gap between skincare and makeup.
Don’t just think vague hydration and ‘anti-ageing’ benefit claims either, there’s some pretty cool science going on. For example, some brands are developing ranges for acne-prone skin which could be a real breakthrough for that terrible cycle; blemished skin, so covers with heavy makeup and in return get more blemishes.
Two brands that do a lot of makeup skincare hybrid products are Bareminerals with products such as COMPLEXION RESCUE Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30 and BLEMISH RESCUE Skin-Clearing Loose Powder Foundation. And It Cosmetics with their many makeup skincare products like the Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer.
Foundations
It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ claims to be seven products in one. One of those is a hydrating anti-ageing serum, with added ingredients like peptides, collagen, niacinamide and antioxidants it’s quite good. If you look on the website, it’s an extensive ingredient list!
NEW Even Better Clinical™ Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 25 by Clinique this is a range aimed at oily troubled skin with the aim to leave your bare skin looking ‘even better’ – big claims! Ingredients in this oil-free formula, are hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C and Clinique’s secret molecule, UP302, for fighting dark spots.
Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue SPF 45 is a lightweight medium coverage foundation with skincare benefits claiming to soothe, protect and hydrate; they mention the highlighted ingredients such as chia seed extract, probiotic technology and ion-charged water. The product comes in 28 shades with a radiant finish.
Concealers
Another from itCosmetics, the Bye Bye Breakout Full-Coverage Concealer. They say it’s ‘colour-infused’ skincare, formulated like an acne drying lotion with light coverage pigments. It’s full of spot fighting ingredients like witch hazel, tea tree, sulfur, AHA/BHA, zine oxide, and kaolin clay.
First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Bendy avocado concealer made to be super hydrating and nourishing for your under eyes with avocado oil, Vitamin E and a mushroom extract called tremella fuciformis sporocapp extract, which to be honest sounds kinda freaky and not necessarily something want near your eyes! I trust these guys know what they’re doing though!. They have also added caffeine to help with puffiness which works as a temporary vasoconstrictor, helping to reduce swelling.
By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Concealer this vegan formula claims to be 87% skincare to disguise, plump and blur the under eyes – love the sound of that. As the name suggests, it’s got hyaluronic acid, which we all know is for hydration and plumping. They have also added Horse Chestnut seed extract, which is reported to help stimulate micro-circulation; which would be fab for the under eyes helping with brightness.
Mascaras
Rimmel’s Lash Accelerator Mascara is a little drug store product that’s been around for a while. I wouldn’t be expecting full fat lashes with this one but over time, with consistent use, you can see improvement with your natural lash growth. Procapil is cited as the active ingredient – many seem to swear by it!
Strength & Length Serum-Infused Mascara by bareMinerals is a little two in one style. It is designed to give fuller lashes instantly like a regular mascara, as well as help with growth over time, like a lash serum. They say potent peptide ingredients rich in amino acids help support lashes at the root for natural growth with less fallout – whoooh! Even more, the brush is designed in this new paddle-style I’ve seen popping up. One side of the brush is flat to push and lift the lashes up, mimicking that trick using a spoon to curl the lashes, you can google that one if you like, it looks painful.
So that’s it! There are so many more products out there that are starting to merge skincare and makeup (more and more everyday it seems!) so these are just a few of the top ones… What do you think? Should skincare and makeup stay separate or join forces? Have you got any product recommendations? I’d love to know your thoughts!!
