For the past two months, I have been wearing the Purito Centella Green Level sunscreen. I’d seen a lot of positive online reviews, so figured I should see what the hype is about. I’m sold – it ticks all the boxes! No scent, no eye sting, no pilling and not sticky, it’s that good! Oh, and as a bonus, it’s a great price at around $15 USD (depending on where you find it).
What is ‘free’ of:
Alcohol-Free, fragrance-free, mineral oil and essential oil free.
Additionally Purito Centella is a cruelty-free brand and as such this product is vegan.
What it does have:
To start with its SPF50+, which is fab; we need to be aiming to use a minimum of SPF30, It also has the highest PA rating you can get, which is four pluses. PA is mostly found on sunscreens from Asia and measures the UVA protection that the product provides; essentially it shows how well the sunscreen protects you from persistent pigment darkening.
This is a chemical sunscreen and has two UV protecting ingredients: Uvinul A Plus and Uvinul T 150. With only two filters, people with sensitive skin may find it less stingy and irritant. Additionally, these filters are pretty new and most likely not found in sunscreens from the USA yet. So if you have tried chemical sunscreens in the past with no luck for your sensitive skin, give these filters a try – it’s worth a try for no white cast! (Like many mineral sunscreens have).
In terms of other skincare ingredients, there is hyaluronic acid, which helps the skin hold onto water. As well as containing the powerhouse niacinamide (at 2%) that helps minimise the look of pores, even skin tone, and reduce fine lines and dullness.
The highlighted ingredient is Centella Asiatica. Centella Asiatica is a plant found in several tropical Asian countries, used for thousands of years, for it’s healing, regenerative, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
Maybe you have heard of this buzz ingredient being called ‘Cica’, it’s recently become popular in Korean skincare for healing and sensitive skin. But actually many french pharmacy brands, e.g. La Roche-Posay, have had a derivative of Centrella in their top product, Cicaplast Baume B5, for many years!
Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Glycerin, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Acrylates Copolymer, Silica, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Dibutyl Adipate, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Centella Asiatica Extract (4315 ppm), Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Disodium EDTA, Adenosine, Hyaluronic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol
How it feels
It’s a joy to apply, and that’s so important when looking for a sunscreen – you need to love it else you just won’t wear it daily! As someone who’s tried many Asian sunscreens, which are typically a nice light runny milk formula, I was surprised when I first squeezed this one out.
Consistency wise it is much more like a light morning moisturiser; spreads easily, absorbs nicely, no white cast and no dreaded pilling (that’s when your product rolls and looks like your skins falling off).
I bought mine from Yesstyle, which ships to the USA and load of counties; it’s a great site to stock up on Japanese and Korean skincare!
